For my artist research I chose to look at a piece done by a famous Spanish artist named Salvator Dali. His work is notorious for being strange and full of concept. one example of his work is below , the famous painting , the melting clock. Although simplistic in some senses with the focus on one main object there are lots of elements within it such as the sea , sky and the box. The clock is gold and capture's the viewers eye immediately especially with broken pieces flying away on the wind which could be representing loss of time.
Within the clock and around it are some bugs which add some depth to the image and contrast to the boldness of the clock in addition to the moths representing death which links to the "death" of time. The background consists of a sea and a cliff which can cause the viewer to question as to why that it . As well as this the clock seems to be melting off of a box which portrays a shadow behind the clock adding tone to the picture. The colors in this are mainly made up of browns , golds and blues. In my opinion this picture is very unearthly and unsettling in a intriguing way. There is more that meets the eye when first looking at this. |
